Everyone has a story to tell and it is my story that makes me the photographer I am today.
It’s what makes me passionate about capturing precious moments on camera. It’s what gives me goose bumps when I find that perfect picture. And it’s what makes me appreciate being able to share this special talent with other people.
This is my story…
Being a photographer was always a dream of mine but for many years it came second to my work as a teacher. I loved my job. Building relationships with children and watching them grow was what life was all about. But I always wanted a child of my own. When I was told by doctors that I had ‘less than a one percent chance of ever conceiving a child,’ my world fell apart.
But, four years and quite a battle later, a miracle happened…my miracle is Arthur.
It is Arthur who drove me to realise my dream of becoming a photographer.
Taking photographs of my son came as a natural part of motherhood to me. I wanted to capture every tiny bit of him to save forever. From his tiny brand new fingers and toes to photographs of him splashing in puddles and tasting his first ice-cream.
Everyone told me, ‘Blink and he will be all grown up!’ and they were right. It goes by so quickly and that’s what drives me to capture these precious moments.
He is what drove me to train as a photographer and now, years later, not only do I have a wonderful time capturing the personalities of small people, I am in the hugely privileged position of being able to share the most special day of many couples’ lives, as I record the story of their day as it unfolds. I often reflect on how lucky I am to be there to share their emotion as I stand and sing a hymn or peep out from behind a tree to capture a moment where two people are just in their own world, where nothing else matters but those two people in that photograph…well, that’s what it’s about.
My job is more than just a job to me. It is something that I have to do. It’s something I do every day of my life. It’s part of who I am.
This is why I’m passionate about photography. This is why I would be honoured to tell your story.
